What Did T-clog Do?

As I stated in my previous post, I RAN into some crazy days that left me unable to get out to train. I wanted to let you know because I am holding myself accountable. I didn't want you thinking that I ran a bunch of days when in fact I did not. Anyway, I ran last night to keep myself on track.

I didn't only run I busted it out and went the distance. I ran a 5k last night. From my house to the UNI dome and back. Each way is 1.7 miles. I even ran the entire distance, both there and back. There is a panther at the top of the stairs by the dome. I gave the panther a high five and walked around for five minutes before running all the way back home. I know hat I can run the 5k on somewhat level ground and anticipate some trouble when we have big hills. The run back was killing me because it is a long run up a gradual hill. I made it and I am proud of it.

About 1/2 of the run each way is nothing but grass. Makes it good for the knees and working different muscles. The hills are gradual but long. The stairs at the UNI dome got wet with my sweat as I run up them as fast as I could. I know what you are thinking right now. You are thinking that I still need to get out to the hills in the forest. I agree, but it will happen when it happens. My breathing was good all the way. I had to fight through some cramps in my liver as well as my legs. The legs were telling me to stop as I ran up the long hill which was covered in grass on the way home.

The last thought that I will leave you with is this: Dan and Meth, do you remember about a year ago when we were going back up the mountain from the stream in the Dixie National Forest? Do remember how it was kicking my ass on the way up? I had to stop and catch my breath every 25-50 feet of walking. This same guy ran a 5k in just over a year later. What can he do in a year from now?

a few thoughts:
- AWESOME! It was frickin' Rocky I, just replacing the UNI dome stairs with the stairs outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I picture all your 2nd graders running along behind you.
- It sounds like you are aware it will be different with the hills. Let me just say this: if you're running over three miles now, that puts you ahead of the schedule I laid out, which is friggin awesome. I would submit that, at this point, hills are SO important that you could even knock one day a week off your running if it just meant that, of the remaining days during each week, you use one of them to go to Hartman Reserve. Run against the clock and forget actual distance. If your nighttime run normally takes 30 minutes, just run loops at Harman for 30 minutes. The hills will kick your ass, but you're going to be so happy you did it on Sept. 22.
- Where will you be a year from now? It all depends on whether you keep exercising. If you do - the possibilities are mind boggling.
- I'm very proud of you!

I will hit the hills. When you come down some weekend, we can run the Rocky route together.

Don't let me intrude on your gayness, but I do remember pokey's trip up from the stream at Dixie. I remember it well. I thought you were just trying to get me alone so you could beat my ass.

You are forgiven my great friend. I will only beat your ass for fun and giggles rather than out of anger.

Man, I really sucked wind going up that mountain. Dan was flying up and down it like he was a flippin' hummingbird or mountain goat. Thanks for hanging back with me buddy!

I wasn't trying to abandon anybody, I just had as a goal for that trip to do at least one kick-ass trail run.

Not saying that you were trying to ditch me at all. I am inspired by your ability to fly up and down the trail. Hats off to you friend!
