We have been getting some snow and ice this latter part of fall. It was ice first and snow on top of that. I didn't get a change to get the ice removed before the snow came, but that is the way it goes sometimes. The snow we have been getting has not been a lot. It is usually and inch or two at a time. On Monday we had a two hour delay. Man that was sweet! The 4 wheel drive has been very useful this season.
Today Emily and I were outside chopping the ice and shoveling the snow from our driveway. We got about halfway done when we needed a break. I am dreading the second half. I am going to watch the Viking game at 3 if it is on here. I had a dream that the Vikings lost big because they looked passed the 49er's. I hope that I am wrong.

You were not wrong.
Man, you guys in Iowa and your snow over ice. I don't know what the deal is with that. We're pretty much snow up here, or ice. One or the other. Not a Layer Cake of Death like you folks down there.
That said - we had a snowy commute home last week where a couple of my co-workers - who each live < 15 miles from work, spend two hours on the road trying to get home. I telecommuted that day.
Brilliant man you are!
I felt so that day.
We get the ice and snow layer cake of death here too. We usually get it in the reverse order though.
It snows overnight when it's cold. As it warms the snow changes to freezing rain and then just rain. The sidewalks remain cold so the rain melts some of the snow and then freezes to the sidewalk. Night comes and it drops below freezing again, making everything only a zamboni short of a hockey rink.
Last week I held off shoveling the 4 inches of snow we got thinking it would help keep the rain from freezing to the steps. As it was, where we crushed the snow going up the steps it turned into a frozen hell, and the undisturbed snow on either side was frozen and excruciating to remove.
Good fucking times.
