Yellowstone

Gentlemen, I am proposing a trip to the great Yellowstone in June of 2010. This trip would be for the four of us and it would be much cooler in June than July for obvious reasons. As a forester and teacher I am one of the very few who have not been to this awesome land. It was the very first national park in our country and we should see it before it blows up again.

Escalante cooked us and gave us her best shot in trying to keep our bodies from walking in or out alive. Yellowstone has it's own dangers and proves to be one hell of an adventure. I am proposing for us to backpack through the park seeing amazing sights. While there, we can keep our eyes out for bigfoot. Imagine bison, elk, grizzly bears, wolves, and cougars lurking around for the perfect opportunity to take one or all of us down. Meths Jetboil is howling for more foods to cook, Mighty Tom is looking to get in on the action, Dan is wanting to show off his incredible cardio system by zooming up and down mountains, and C.F. Bear is wanting to show that he can pack his backpack correctly. A 12 year low in action will get a man looking forgetful.

What do you say men?

As I'll be away for a few days - I guess I'll be the first to comment. Scary...

First, I have no problem with the destination; however, I am not sure where everybody else sits with YS - so, unless everybody is cool with YS I propose that everybody sort of proposes a destination and then we discuss from there.

That is, if everybody is cool with YS, then no problem. However, if that is not cool with everybody, it seems only fair for each to propose an idea (including myself).

YS like some many "spots" would certainly be worthwhile.

Are you waffeling already? Kidding.

To everyone else: If you are not cool with Yellowstone, then suggest something else and we can have discussions.

Tellowstone has always been a dream of mine so that is why I suggested it.

I would definitely not rule it out. I think it's worth considering a few possible locations before deciding on anything for sure.

Let's at least consider things out of the box, as well (Scottish highlands, anyone?)

T-Clog - that last post made it seem like I'm cool on Yellowstone (as opposed to being cool WITH Yellowstone). I think Yellowstone would be an awesome trip and should totally be in the short discussion, especially now that we know it has been on your Short List for some time. I do want to make sure we consider a few possibilities, though. We've only got two more trips till we turn fitty. We want to make them count.

Personally, I'm just glad you're not proposing a week-long sojourn at Arrow Cabin.

You bet. I welcome suggestions. I am just trying to get the ball rolling. I like every 4-5 years myself. Throw some ideas out guys.

I'm fine with YS, though the main access areas will be insanely busy, even if the backcountry is not. Also, the bugs...

There's probably no perfect solution. Escalante was great for both lack of crowds and lack of bugs, but it was really damn hot.

I'm also totally for thinking outside the 'continental box' though nothing specifically comes to mind. I'll give it some thought...though almost anywhere could be fun.

I think we can all be agreed that lack of bugs is a MAJOR FACTOR.

Some careful research will need to be done to avoid them then...

I will be waiting for some discussions eagerly like a new puppy left at home for the very first time waiting your return.

I am for going outside the US probably after a couple of trips within the US.

I would not rule a suggestion out, but that seems to me to be the next level. We might still be in the US level of adventure (Meth exempt).

If it was reasonably priced it would be more likely.
