I-35 Bridge and Lunch

Man, I hope I get the facts straight. The problem with recording an event over months is that you forget fine details. Dan, feel free to correct anything that I forget to add or don't have 100% correct.

The museum was great! Our bellies were beginning to make noise and we decided obviously on pizza. Dan made a strong case for Papa's Pizza, but I pulled out the visitor card and asked if we could go to my favorite pizza place in the world (Rocky's). I was totally content on eating Papa's pizza for supper. Dan gave me a scare when he said that he was not sure that it even existed anymore in Brooklyn Center.

On our way to go eat Dan mentioned the new bridge that just opened up. I agreed to go and check it out. Dan had not had the opportunity to go over it yet. I was glad to be with him on his first trip over since the completion. A third of the way across Dan or I said we should shoot a movie going over it. As you seen from the movie Dan sent you we had a little difficulty getting across. It mad be a tad disrespectful to those who didn't make it, but that was not our intent. We were just being silly asses. I have to say that it is a sharp looking bridge. Meth might appreciate the design on a different level being an architect and all.

As you can see the Rocky's is still there and I was very pleased. Dan, I don't think was all that excited about it. He has more refined tastes. He is the Jason Bartlett of pizza. Just kidding. We got a lunch special which included a slice of pizza, bread sticks, and pop.

We talked about the afternoons activites which was fishing and forest football. Before any of those things we NEEDED to go back to Dan's house. Before we left Rocky's we saw a sign that made me cry. If only I could I would!

Every Day? Hell Yes! I don't know what it is but this pizza is right on the money with me. Is it the sauce? Is it the dough? Is it the toppings? I just love it a lot. When I lived in Brooklyn Center I ate there many times each week. Maybe that's why I am a fatty?

This is going to sound silly come from a man, such as me, with such "refined pizza tastes," but: The sauce actually reminds me a lot of a homemade sauce Sharon makes that uses - believe it or not - cinnamon. That may be the "secret spice."

I actually do think it's pretty tasty pizza, if a bit gloppy. Their breadsticks are for shit, though; and the prices are a bit high for fast food. If you want two normal slices, plus pop & a cup (yes, a drink cup, folks) of breadsticks; you're into the seven dollar range, I think.

Yes! I remember now that you talked about that.

Maybe we need a taste test between Sharon's tasty pizza sauce and Rocky's? I am sure Sharon's is much better, even though I rave about Rocky's.

Dan, thanks for indulging my need to get a Rocky's fix.

I don't know - Sharon's got the advantage of more wholesome ingredients, I'm sure. But Rocky's has got the advantage of extensive testing. You can't dismiss the effect of a good formula (or just a ton of fat & sugar). People don't get hooked on fast food by accident.

Rocky's was never among my favorites - their crust was always too doughy. I did win a bet in college about my 'supposed 'inability to eat a large by myself. Of course, I ate it all, in one sitting, doughy crust and all.

I am impressed with your pizza eating ability. You are my Hancock!

Hancock is a movie I seen last week.

He is no Pizza Killer.

Man, that's the kinda bet I need to make. Not even just because I CAN eat a large all by myself, but because I would GET to eat a large all by myself.

Though Rocky Rococo's was not a favorite of mine, either, I have to say I get nostalgic for it. There was a tacky little Rocky's in the Crossroads Mall area that I'd frequent with friends and family back in the '80s. Also, there was a Rocky's in dowtown Iowa City that was a study haunt.

Glad to see ya in here SC!

There use to be one next to the UNI Dome, but now it is just a stupid office building for UNI.

When I see it I think of what use to be. I also miss Shakey's like crazy. The closest thing to it is greasey old Pizza Ranch. Those don't even exist in towns larger than Waverly.

Nice to be here. Yeah, I thought that UNI Rococo's had a great location, so close to the dome. It sounds like UNI has the same policy regarding property as the U of I: if it's for sale and adjacent to campus, buy it, and figure out what to do with it later.

Sounds about right.

I love that this post has 2 pictures of RR and none of the bridge.

I was going to add the movie, but Dan already sent it out for people to watch.

I barely had time to shot the movie before we were across. A photo would not have been as fun as the movie.

Thanks for the comment.
