We left on St. Patricks Day. All of us wore green shirts. The people on the plane were pinching those who didn't have green on. Our rental car was a Niessan Altima. You had to push a button in order to start the car. Man that thing drove like a dream. I wanted to get one when I got back home, but Sarah said that I had to wait until the Montero was paid off first.
The airport in Mesa was small. We got off the plane outside. There were no tunnels to walk through here. Pheonix has a huge airport. There are planes all day flying into that place. I spent about three days before our trip making maps off of Map Quest, but they were not used. Sarah's mom bought a car navigation system and let use use that instead. Those things work very well. It even talked to me as I was driving.
We arrived at our hotel and was pleased to see that it was a great choice. The building was newer and was in the right place for all of our adventures. Day Inn had a nice pool, clean rooms, and an awesome breakfast.
Wednesday will be Frank Lloyd Wright's T. West and a Chicago Cubs spring trainning game against the SF Giants (Emily's softball team).

Wow - the first leg of any trip coming off totally and utterly without a hitch...good omen, methinks.
On a side note - and perhaps topic for much larger discussion in another venue: the decline of the traditional, foldable roadmap and its endless symbology, points of interest, and towns in between and for hundreds of miles to either side; in favor of MapQuest & electronic navigation that pretty much give you point A, point B, and maybe a few things that lie directly along that path. As I said, another topic of discussion. But one that is near & dear to my heart, as a cartographer & lover of place & space.
I hope for everyone's sake the AC was working and remained so, along with the power.
I eagerly await installment 2, sometime before Christmas (and this from the master procrastinator).
Without the "procratin" and with a "b"
