Take this Job and Soffit!

Saturday I learned how to put up sofit and some siding. I love to learn new skills like that. Dan might be reading this and getting sick to his stomach, but man home improvements are exciting. If you can do anything yourself you will save tons of frog skins. I worked with a guy from Texas. He thought he knew a lot about how things work. The first piece of sofit that we put up was destroyed when he pounded the nail up through the sofit and bent the aluminum because he went too far. You have to use a punch I told him, and we contiued on with the project. Texans are funny people. They sure love their football and they love their sun. Dan would be right at home in Texas because they don't worry about the sun. I offered him some sunscreen and he said, "I don't use that stuff, I'm from Texas!" "I have 40 years of sunbrun right here and I'm fine", he said.

Later in the afternoon, we were adding some siding to a gable just off of the front door. I measured and remeasured the space so that we would only need to cut once. I also stressed that in the trailer there was two different shades of siding. He flew in and out and began to cut. I held up the piece and it was a different shade than the rest of the house. He had to do it again. Going gun hoe is not always the best practice in my opinion. Slow and steady sometimes gives you a quality product that outlasts the many crappy jobs you can do fast.

Anyway, it was a hoot and I learned a lot from the experience. I recommend that if you ever have the opportunity to work with Habitat for Humanity that you give it a shot.

Apparently soffit is tougher in Texas.

I've actually worked a couple of days for HfH through my work. I don't fear home improvements, I just know my limitations and usually choose to do something else with my time.

I also am not the sun-seeking boy of 24 you recall.

Are you the shade seeking man of 42?

What did you do when you worked for Habitat? Frame work, landscape, insulation???????

Suntan lotion wearing man of 36.

One day I built a wooden framework for a set of stairs leading from a driveway down a slope to the side of the garage.

Another day I rolled out sod.
