Basketball

Yesterday I played basketball with Sean. I wanted to get my cardio working and to get that stamina built up. I will go to the track tonight to see about how long it takes me to run the mile. In high school I was somewhere in the 10 minute range. I anticipate it being slightly longer as I am starting my trining from scratch. I will provide an update in the coming days. Dan put together a fabolicious schedule for me to follow. Hopefully, I will be able to run most of the 5k. Walking will not be ruled out, but I really want to try to run the entire distance. My training window is small so I better put together some Rocky songs to keep me going and hitting it hard.

If you stick to "The Schedule," I'm thinking you can run the whole 5K.

I'm also thinking you can run a mile in under 10 tonight.

Good luck on both counts.

But for the love of God, make this the last time you do your running around a track, at least till you do another check-in. There's no faster way to make running seem monotonous and anti-fun.

Understood about the track thing. I just want to get my time. I know that 4 trips around is a mile. When I run on the street or trail, I can estimate how far I have gone by my time. I will take into account hills when I run too. Going slower doesn't mean I went very far. I am just trying to through a little bit of science into this ordeal.

I hope the panther has his claws sharpened.

Don't forget: many tracks have switched to metric lengths, so it may not be 1/4 mile exactly.

So....how was your first mile?!?!?!

All* tracks are 400m - 440 yards.

There has been no switching to metric. They were ALWAYS metric.

A mile is a mile. 1760 yards.

*some tracks are 300m - like the one in the rec center at ISU.

Shows what I know about track n' field. So 4 times around is about a straightaway and half of a curve short of a mile. Makes a big difference if you're running it for time.

4 times around is a mile.

Not part of the way around or any such thing. Four full times around.
