Emily, Jonah, and I went to camp on Saturday to have a bit of fun and to enjoying nature. The kids were excited to finding honey locust pods and fungus on sticks. I was there as a small tribute to Ozzie. I looked for that old man's pipe smoke, but found none. Instead I discovered many small memories that were hidding in the corners of my mind.
Elliott was open so we I took a picture of the kids in front of the fireplace. In the photo, there is a small orb. Was it Ozzie? Who know what it was. Whatever it was, it is comforting to think that it might be Ozzie. It was a little odd that it was unlocked since all of the other buildings were locked up tight.

I should back up a little to the top of Big John's Trail. After leaving the chapel area where Jonah wanted to pretend that he was the pastor giving us a Sunday sermon, we headed down BJT. I decided that this was a great place to take a little video. The kids headed down the switchbacks while I recorded their movements. My inital thought was to show my friends the Clog clan enjoying nature, but as I watched the video I could not help but see how much they walked like the bigfoot from the Robertson's of the 1960's. You all remember seeing that film right? If not, it was the first color video shot of a bigfoot. The female bigfoot turned around as it walked away from the photographers.
Walking up to Echo Ridge from Elliott is always special to me because of the railroad ties that were placed there under my ecology directorship. I say that it is the best trail in camp. Jonah did need a hand going up some of the steep steps. Once on top of the hill we sat down and listened to the sounds of nature. We heard: corn driers, people on a horse ride, wind in the leaves, squirrels crunching through the leaves, and Jonah wacking a tree with a little stick. The little guy did not want to sit and listen to nature very long. Why listen to nature when you can make your own noise? This is what I imagine him thinking as I ask him to quietly sit with Emily and I.

Always a good time for me at camp. Jonah was heard saying that he wants to stay there forever. Emily wanted to see more of camp, but Jonah had to use the restroom. We left quickly and made it home in the nick of time. Why not go at camp? No paper.

Time to take those kids out for an overnight!
I'm loving Rose at every age, of course; but I can't help looking forward to the age where she moves from stimulus/response to kind of really understanding WHY she's out there in the woods. When you move from pure mimickry to truly wanting to contribute, it becomes a much for enjoyable experience for the whole family at that time. For Lucy, it was around 20 months.
Loved the pics! Fun time!
Great stuff.
Nothing like the stories of 'Ecology projects' to bring a smile to my face as I imagine Clog in the role of the Pharaoh, seated upon a chair carried by scouts and using his whip to discipline the slaves building his pyramid.
Meth, I am crying as I read your comments. They are very funny. In contrast to your impression of me as a camp staff member in charge of other scouts, I was really great to work for. I always provided a lot of praise and support. I provided my the OA scouts with a lot of water and food. I even provided a lot of breaks.
What do you guys think of the video? Does Jonah look like a little bigfoot walker? Maybe he wll be a bigfoot whisperer?
