Mesa, Arizona: Wednesday - Part 2

After the tour of Taliesin West which is in Scottsdale, we took in a Cubs spring trainning game at HoHoKam Park in Mesa. The GPS system that we had in the car really helped us to get to where we wanted to be without getting us lost. I recommend them to anyone who travels to unknown areas on a regular basis.

At the park we had some Cubs popcorn, Cubs hotdogs, and giant Cubs soft drinks. I could have gotten Ferggie Jenkins #31 (famous ex-pitcher) autograph for twenty dollars, but a sign said that the signature would not be official so I passed.

It was a good game because the Cubs lead for eight innings. They lost in the ninth to the Giants. Jonah was tired after about the third inning, but he hung in there. We took him for walks a few times throughout the game. Once we went to the souviner shop. He picked out a huge Cub paw with claws.

We had front row seats in section 23. Ryan Dempster (pitcher) walked right passed us after the game. I took my glove, but no foul balls ever came my way. I have always wanted to go to Mesa to see the Cubs, so I guess I can cross that off of my list of things to do.
As I follow them this season they are not the power house they were last year, but I remain faithful that they will turn it around and still get a playoff spot. They are currently 2.5 games out of first place. Go CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every time I read "Taliesin" I'm thinking it's "Taliban," and I'm thinking "alright, there's gonna be some ass-kicking," and then I get disappointed.

Good stuff, nonetheless. That's got to have been great, to see spring training down there. I, myself, remember the first time I got to see the Dodgers, in Vero Beach, FL. Big deal for me.

So - has Jonah been to other major league games? I'm holding off for the new Twins stadium to take Lucy to a ball game for the first time.

Well my great friend, there are no more Taliesin titles from here on out.

Jonah has not been to any other MLB game before. This was his first.

You should take Lucy to the Metrodome to see a Twins game so that you can compare and contrast.

Comparing is a powerful Marizano strategy to learning.

Problem is: Lucy can't stay interested in a spectator sport, other than sand volleyball or ice skating, for more than 2 minutes.

I'm sorta thinking the Globetrotters might be a good "gateway sport" to get her interested.

Brilliant!

"Daddy, why is he called Curly when he has no hair?"

Good stuff. Something irresistible about the foam finger. Even better if giving the finger, but whatever.

Curly, I would guess, is 60 years old by now.

Sand volleyball?

Weird. It happened during the Olympics last summer. Of course, it gets more air time than any other event (other than an amalgom of Michael Phelps' various events), so Lucy was bound to see it. Fro whatever reason, it piqued her interest like no other sport has. She'll actually watch it. Maybe cause it actually has women competing.

Or because it looks so fun to jump around in the sand.
