Mesa, Arizona: Thursday (Phoenix Zoo)

We took the entire day to do the zoo. In all reality, trying to do the zoo in half a day is not cost effective or fun. The kids had a blast. We were very tired at the end of the day. We bought a pass that covered everything from train rides to touching sting rays. The Phoenix Zoo is nestled within Papago State Park. Their you can go to the zoo or visit the adjacent Botanical Gardens. Their is even a nice golf course there too. Well actually, most of the community of Mesa/Phoenix is built around one giant golf course. It seems that way to me.

Jonah and Emily tried rock climbing for time, but Jonah had a hard time getting anywhere. He had sandals and zero arm strength. The best part of the zoo for me was the photo ops of the kids. They had fun posing. There was one statue of a cowboy on a horse that was rearing up that I took a photo of, but I had to wait for about five minutes because a couple and a two year old were talking about the horses penis. Good thing my kids were down the trail with Sarah at the time.

I am not the biggest fan of zoos, but this was a good one. Actually it is one of the top five in the US for children. Check out the website: http://www.phoenixzoo.org/

Another day jam-packed with fun.

Sounds like fun. Any zoo is about 1,000 times better than the Como Zoo, which is like Detroit, but for animals.

I think the first zoo I have ever been to was the Como Zoo. I must have been five or six?

It definitely matches up with what kids' expectations of a zoo is from children's books. Basically, all animals on concrete slabs under what are essentially gigantic Tweety Bird cages.

good deal all around - love that last pic with Jonah - he appears to be in his natural habitat!
